Domaine Gour de Chaulé, Cuvée Tradition, Gigondas, France
Domaine du Gour de Chaulé was established at the beginning of the last century where it was split between the production of olives and vines. As the years progressed it became more focused on winemaking and from the 1970s onwards the estate has been bottling and selling its own wines.
80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre
A deep almost black color, this Gigondas offers an exceptionally concentrated nose of wild herbs, black olives and black fruits. It is rich and mouth-filling, with an amazing weight of fruit on the palate and balanced by soft rounded tannins. Notes of blackcurrant, plum and pepper linger on the palate creating an exceptionally long finish.
Production levels generally average 30 to 32 hectoliters per hectare. The grapes are harvested manually and are never destemmed. There is a three-week cuvaison. Maturing in French oak barrel for 18 months.
Best served: Between 16 and 18°C. Grilled meats, Serve with duck, lamb and beef.
